Verified licenses, sealed bids, and milestone-based payments. Every layer of BidTorch is designed to protect both sides of the transaction.
Every contractor who bids on BidTorch must hold an active California CSLB license. No exceptions.
Every contractor who bids must hold an active California Contractors State License Board license. We check license number, status, classification, and expiration before they can submit a bid.
Contractor bond status and workers' compensation coverage are checked alongside the license. This information is displayed on every bid so homeowners can evaluate it.
License status is rechecked periodically. If a license expires or is suspended, the contractor's bidding ability is paused until the issue is resolved.
As contractors complete projects on BidTorch, they earn tier badges based on real performance data.
Active CSLB license, identity check, and current insurance on file. The baseline for bidding on BidTorch.
10 or more completed projects with an average rating of 4.5/5 or higher. A proven track record.
25 or more completed projects with an average rating of 4.8/5 or higher. The best on the platform.
In a traditional quote, the last contractor in the door can undercut everyone. Sealed bids remove that dynamic entirely.
No contractor can see another's bid. Pricing is based on real costs and margin, not on undercutting a visible competitor.
At the reveal deadline, the homeowner sees every bid at once: price, scope, timeline, and contractor credentials. No drip-feed, no pressure.
Homeowners cannot share one contractor's bid with another to negotiate a lower price. The sealed format prevents this by design.
When protected payments launch, the project total will split into milestones. The homeowner funds each phase, and funds release when the homeowner confirms the work meets the agreed scope.
The homeowner will fund the next phase before work begins. The contractor will see that funds are committed.
The contractor completes the work per the agreed scope. Photos and check-ins will document progress.
The homeowner confirms the work is complete. Funds will then release to the contractor. A small protected-payment fee will be added to each milestone, paid by the homeowner.
When a project does not go as planned, here is what we do.
If work does not meet the agreed scope, flag the milestone before confirming. Document the problem with photos and a description.
Both parties can share the contract scope, milestone documentation, and messages in one place. Our team helps you work toward an outcome you both agree to. BidTorch does not decide who is right.
Once protected payments launch, held milestone payments will move only on an outcome both parties agree to in writing, or one from an independent mediator, arbitrator, or court. For cases that require legal action, we recommend consulting a licensed attorney. BidTorch is not an arbitration service.
Transparency means being clear about what we do and what we do not do.
BidTorch is not a financial institution. Protected payments, when launched, will be processed by a licensed third-party payment processor.
BidTorch does not employ contractors. Contractors on the platform are independent businesses. We verify their CSLB license status but do not supervise their work.
BidTorch does not employ inspectors and never sets prices. In-person walkthroughs happen only after bidding, with a contractor the homeowner chose, and the price always comes from the contractor.
BidTorch is not an arbitration or legal service and does not decide disputes. We help the parties document the issue and reach their own agreement.
Permit check information is sourced from public records and is provided for reference. Always confirm permit requirements with the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
